Privacy Policy

The short version: Rota Vitae has no traditional account and no servers of our own. Your wheels, check-ins, history, and notes live on your device and sync only through your own private iCloud, which we cannot access. If you connect with friends or join a group, only the information you choose to share is shared — and only with the people you choose. The free app shows third-party ads, which collect limited device data to display ads, gated behind a consent prompt. Because the app uses iCloud-synced content, Game Center, sharing, and ads, its App Store privacy label is not “Data Not Collected.”

Who we are

Rota Vitae ("the app," published on the App Store as "Wheel of Life") is an Apple-platform application published under the Carpe Diem umbrella. It is a reflection and wellness tool built around the Wheel of Life. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

No account

The app has no traditional account or sign-up. You don't create a username or password with us, and we don't maintain a user profile on any server we operate. Your identity, where it exists, is your own Apple ID and Game Center identity, handled by Apple.

Your wheels, check-ins, and history

The content you create — the areas on your wheel, your ratings (1–10) at each check-in, your history of wheels over time, your Wheel Scores, and any reflection notes or goals — is created and stored on your device. We, the developer, do not receive or store this content on servers of our own.

iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud, the app syncs your wheels, check-ins, history, and settings through your own private iCloud (a CloudKit private database tied to your Apple ID). This keeps your data consistent across your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This data lives in your private iCloud, is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and is accessible only to you on your own devices. We, the developer, cannot access it. If you are signed out of iCloud, the app stores everything locally on your device only.

Friends, groups, and sharing

Connecting with other people is entirely optional. If you choose to use it:

Game Center is used to discover friends and identify you to people you connect with. Your Game Center identity is managed by Apple under Apple's terms; we do not receive your contacts or your full friends list.
Groups and share links are built on CloudKit Sharing. When you share a wheel or join a group, the relevant data is shared through Apple's CloudKit Sharing mechanism with the specific people you invite or accept.

You choose what is shared. Sharing is configurable per friend and per group, along a spectrum that you control — for example:

Your overall Wheel Score and check-in streak only (most private); up to
Your full wheel, your per-area scores, and your notes (most open).

Only the data you opt in to share is shared, and only with the friends or groups you choose. You can change or revoke sharing at any time. People you share with can see what you've shared with them through their own copy of the app.

Advertising

The app is free and supported by third-party ads served by an advertising network (for example, Google AdMob). Before personalized ads are shown, the app presents a consent prompt using Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), and — where the ad provider would track you across other companies' apps and websites — iOS asks for your permission through App Tracking Transparency first. When ads are served, the ad provider's software may collect and process:

Device and advertising identifiers (such as Apple's Identifier for Advertisers, IDFA, when you allow tracking).
Coarse, non-precise location inferred from your IP address.
Ad interactions and basic device and usage data needed to deliver and measure ads.

This information is handled under the ad provider's own privacy policy. We never share your wheels, check-ins, history, or notes with advertisers, and that content is never used to target or personalize ads. You can change your tracking choice any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Declining tracking does not remove ads; it limits ad personalization.

Our App Store privacy label

Because the app relies on iCloud-synced content, Game Center, optional sharing, and a third-party ad network, its Apple App Store privacy label is not “Data Not Collected.” The label discloses the categories described in this policy — primarily data collected by the ad provider for advertising, and identifiers used for friend connections and sharing.

What we don't do

No traditional accounts or sign-ups with us.
No first-party servers and no first-party analytics or crash-reporting by us, separate from the third-party ad network described above.
We never sell your wheels, check-ins, history, or notes, and never share them with advertisers.
The app does not use Apple Health and does not read your health records.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content, but it is designed for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13.

Not medical advice

Rota Vitae is a reflection and wellness tool for thinking about balance across the areas of your life. It is not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Your Wheel Score and trends are a self-reflection aid, not an assessment of your health.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the revised version at this address.
